The 20th Annual Community Summit will be held Thursday at Bonney Lake High School, from 3 to 8:15 p.m.

The summit — this year themed “Igniting Positive Change” — is an event hosted by the S.T.A.R.R. Project and co-sponsored by the Sumner School District and cities of Bonney Lake and Sumner to discuss matters of health and society that affect the community.

Two pre-summit sessions will be held simultaneously from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Echoing the 2012 summit’s focus on healthy living, one session will be a seminar on fitting in 15 minutes of physical activity every day. The second, led by keynote speaker Monte Stiles, will cover the power of leadership to inspire positive choices and lifestyles.

The sessions will be followed by six simultaneous one-hour breakout sessions regarding positive reinforcement of youth, recognizing substance abuse, personal safety skills, developing youth activities, supporting local businesses, and engaging in social media safely.

From 6 to 8:15 p.m., the summit will serve a complimentary dinner, introduce the 2013 Unsung Hero Awards and bring Stiles up for the keynote address.

Stiles is a former drug prosecutor, and current nature photographer and motivational speaker from Boise, Idaho. He incorporates photography into his presentations, highlighting the contrast between the ugliness of addiction and the beauty of nature.
