Crashes on area highways snarl rush hour traffic | East Pierce Fire and Rescue

Three motor vehicle crashes on highways surrounding Bonney Lake created a difficult commute Monday evening and sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries. It began just before 5 p.m. on State Route 410 East, near Myers Road. Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover.

A 28-foot travel trailer overturned in the westbound lane. The driver was not injured. As a result of the crash, traffic travelling both directions on the highway was backed up for hours.

At 6:30 p.m., a two-car crash on State Route 162 and 96th Street East, between Sumner and Orting, blocked all lanes of traffic and resulted in three minor injuries.

Within minutes of that crash, the most serious accident occurred on State Route 167 near the interchange with State Route 410 East, involving two vehicles, one of which rolled over. East Pierce firefighters transported one patient with life-threatening injuries to a trauma center. A second patient was transported to a local hospital, with non-life threatening injuries,

Just before 11:30 p.m., the firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire on 238th Avenue Court East.

When they arrived, flames were visible from the attached garage of the two-story wood-framed home.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames and were able to keep the fire from progressing into the house.

The garage and two vehicles in the garage were destroyed.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
