Most of the United States observes daylight-saving time, which officially begins at 2 a.m. the second Sunday in March. Clocks are set back an hour at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November.

Daylight-saving time is not observed in Hawaii or Arizona, with the exception of the Najavo Nation, which does recognize DST.

Since Benjamin Franklin first conceived of the notion, controversy has surrounded the concept, which is more accurately called “daylight-shifting time.”
