TACOMA, WA –  On Mar. 28, Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor honored law enforcement employees at the department’s Annual Awards Ceremony. Among those recognized was the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office’s Kara Sanchez, who was selected as the 2013 Deputy Prosecuting Attorney of the Year. The ceremony was held in Pacific Lutheran University’s Anderson Hall.

“Deputy Prosecutor Sanchez successfully tried some of our most challenging cases this year,” said Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist.  “Vigorously pursuing justice, she embodied our office values of hard work and professionalism.”

Sanchez was selected for this award because of her dedication to seeking justice for victims. In 2013, she tried the case of Jennifer Mothershead, who was accused of repeatedly putting bleach into her one-year-old daughter’s eyes, causing permanent vision loss. A jury found her guilty and the judge sentenced her to 40 years in prison.
