A new Narcotics Anonymous group has started meeting in Enumclaw.

Meetings take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Monday at the Church of Christ, 2627 Kibler Ave. The first gathering took place March 3.

Narcotics Anonymous is a global, community-based organization, founded in 1953. Membership growth was minimal during the initial 20 years, but the number of members and meetings has increased dramatically since the publication of the organization’s Basic Text in 1983, Today, NA members attend more than 61,000 meetings weekly in 129 countries.

Narcotics Anonymous offers recovery from the effects of addiction through a 12-step program, including regular attendance at group meetings. The group atmosphere provides help from peers and offers an ongoing support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle.

The name is not intended to imply a focus on any particular drug; rather, NA’s approach makes no distinction between drugs including alcohol.

Membership is free and NA has no affiliation with any outside organization, including governments, religions, law enforcement groups or medical and psychiatric associations.
