Enumclaw police reports May 20-24

DISTURBANCE: Police were alerted at 4 a.m. May 24 to a shirtless adult male who was creating a disturbance in a Cole Street parking lot, approaching females and telling them to call the police. Officers responded and the subject began playing hide-and-seek. He was found at his residence and it was determined he had been drinking. He agreed to remain in his residence.

DISCIPLINE: An officer responded the afternoon of May 24 to a call regarding a possible assault. Contact was made with the complainant and it was determined to be a case of parental discipline.

VANDALISM: Police were told May 24 of an ongoing problem with damage done to the community garden behind the public library. Plants had been pulled up, apparently during nighttime hours. A request was made for additional police patrol.

INDECENT EXPOSURE: Police responded at 4:20 p.m. May 23 after hearing of two subjects engaging in inappropriate activity on the playground equipment at Flensted Park. They were gone before officers arrived.

ABUSE ALLEGED: A caller told police May 23 of possible recurring child abuse at a Battersby Avenue location. An officer responded to the suspect’s apartment and found no sign of problems or injuries to the child. The officer was to forward a report to Child Protective Services for follow-up.

TOLD TO LEAVE: Police responded to a Griffin Avenue location at 6:30 p.m May 23. When asked to leave a classroom, a male subject became agitated and refused to leave the property, continuing to argue with the reporting party at a reception desk. Upon police arrival, the man was given a trespass notice and told to leave.

VEHICLE PROWL: A Lincoln Avenue resident told police at 10:30 p.m May 23 someone had gone through his vehicle, opening both his car door and the glove box. Nothing was taken.

ARRESTED: A May 22 traffic stop resulted in the driver being cited and released for driving with a suspended license. The motorist was then taken to the Puyallup jail due to outstanding arrest warrants issued by Sumner and Bonney Lake.

LOT OF GROCERIES: Police were told of an attempted shoplifting May 22 at a Roosevelt Avenue location. A man and woman attempted to leave a store with $550 worth of groceries. Knowing they had been spotted, the couple discarded the groceries and departed in a black sport utility vehicle. They could not be located.

ANGRY RACERS: Police were notified the afternoon of May 22 of an assault occurring during the bicycle race in downtown Enumclaw. A 16-year-old male was punched in the face by another contestant. Police contacted all parties and it was determined medical aid was not needed. There were no charges filed, as the incident was to be handled through race sanctions.

ATTEMPTED SHOPLIFT: Police were told May 22 of an attempted shoplifting at a Roosevelt Avenue location. A clerk grabbed merchandise from a suspect, who east on state Route 410 in a red pickup. A report was taken for third-degree theft and fourth-degree assault. The suspect could not be located.

SANDWICH STOLEN: Police took a report May 22 of a submarine sandwich stolen from a Monroe Avenue location. Fife subjects were involved, including two females, each wearing a tutu over their pants. The girls were located and said the males were simply flirting with them, but they were not part of the group. A report was pending the outcome of a security tape.

WORRIED ABOUT GUN: Staff at a Roosevelt Avenue business called police May 21, worried about a subject with a handgun in a shopping basket. After departing the business, the man was contacted by police, who learned he had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. He was warned about not keeping it concealed.

ASSAULT: Police responded at approximately 12:25 a.m. to a Chinook Avenue address and a report of an assault. The suspect fled and police notified both Puyallup and Bonney Lake authorities. The victim was evaluated and it was determined medical aid was not necessary. At 4:40 a.m., the suspect called local police and said he would arrive at the police station to provide a report once he became sober.

THEFT: A caller told police May 20 someone had stolen all of her grandmother’s possessions while the grandmother was in a nursing home. A neighbor admitted to cleaning out the apartment and selling everything. A burglary report was taken.
