Man charged with rape of a child he met online | Tacoma

TACOMA, WA – Today Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged Glen Winans, 47, with Rape of a Child in the Second Degree for having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met online.

Today Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged Glen Winans, 47, with Rape of  a Child in the Second Degree for having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met online.

While deployed in Afghanistan, the defendant met the victim online at “meetme.com,” and the two engaged in multiple conversations. The victim told the defendant she was 15 years old. One month ago, the two met for the first time when the defendant drove to the victim’s home in Kelso and took her to a see a movie. They had sex that night.

On October 25, 2013, the defendant picked up the victim from her home and brought her back to his home in Lakewood, where they again had sex. The victim stayed the night. The next day, the two were eating at a café in Lakewood when a waitress overheard the defendant tell the victim that he liked young girls. The waitress called police. The victim admitted to officers that the two had sex, and the defendant was subsequently arrested at the café.

The defendant denied having a sexual relationship with the victim, but told detectives that he did not like women in their thirties and forties because they are typically out of shape and overweight.

The defendant was arraigned today and bail was set at $100,000. Charges are only allegations and a person is presumed innocent unless he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
