Enumclaw’s motorcycle drag race team “Max-G Racing” entered its top fuel Harley in the recent Northwest Nitro Nationals, staged at Woodburn Dragstrip near Portland, Ore.

The Enumclaw team includes locals Dana and Carol Meeks and brothers Chris and John Wilson.

After a full year away from the racetrack the team had one practice run, clocking 168 mph.

“Our first pass was extremely slow,” Meeks said. “The fuel system malfunctioned. Normally the engine burns a full gallon of nitro in 6 seconds, but this time the bike came back to the pit having used only a quart.”

The team identified and fixed the problem.

“Our second pass was the exact opposite,” Meeks said. “It pulled like a rocket from start to finish, zero to 208 mph in 6.74 seconds. The power was unreal—and 208.23 mph was a new personal best!”

For Sunday eliminations the team increased the tune up for more power. Things didn’t go as well as planned and Meeks wound up “smoking” the rear tire; the rider in the other lane pulled away for the win.

The Enumclaw team is sponsored by Alpine Mortgage Planning, RK Graphics, Leo’s Welding, AMS Oil, Asylum Garage  and Performance Coatings.
