Metropolitan Park District measure fails on election night

Voters against the measure comprised 2,388 ballots, or 79.52 percent of ballots counted so far.

The special election measure to form a Metropolitan Park District in Bonney Lake has failed, according to the most recent ballot count Wednesday afternoon.

More than 25 percent of votes have been counted from more than 60,000 registered voters, comprising 15,053 ballots, though ballots specific to Bonney Lake make up a relatively small portion of the total. The MPD measure had been counted for 3,003 ballots as of 2:43 p.m. Wednesday.

Voters against the measure comprised 2,388 ballots, or 79.52 percent of the total.

The Courier-Herald will update this story as more votes come in.

The county has projected a 36 percent voter turnout for the election.

Meanwhile, voters in Milton and Fire Protection District 22 have overwhelmingly approved measures to annex the city into East Pierce Fire and Rescue. Milton voters have approved the measure by 85.69 percent and District 22 voters have approved it at a rate of 86.16 percent.
