Karen D. Migas, a 26-year resident of the Plateau, died July 26, 2009.

She was born July 7, 1939. She will be remembered for her unyielding optimism while battling lupus all her adult life. She was active with volunteer work and in her church and enjoyed travels around the world.

She is survived by husband Dick; son Douglas of Kennewick, Wash.; daughter Michelle of Enumclaw; and four grandchildren.

A service took place July 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enumclaw.

Memorials are suggested to the Northwest Kidney Foundation, 700 Broadway, Seattle.

LUCILLE OLSON

Lucille E. Olson, an Enumclaw resident for 42 years, died July 18, 2009, in Scottsdale, Ariz. She was 88.

She was born Oct. 14, 1920, to George and Evelyn Vallier in Oberon, N.D., where she met her future husband, Rickard J. Olson. They were married Dec. 15, 1948. They moved their four children to Enumclaw in 1966. She and her husband moved to Scottsdale in 2007. Memories of her love and humor remain with those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Rickard Olson; sons Rick Olson and wife Kathy of Scottsbluff, Neb., Kyle Olson and wife Kathy (Berg) of Liberty Lake Wash., and Corey Olson and wife Crystal (Bergstrom) of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; daughter Rebecca Hitchman and husband Michael of Scottsdale; sisters Ann Erickson and Georgine Isakson, both of North Dakota; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers Clifford and Gerald Vallier.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a local hospice.

GEORGE CHEN

Enumclaw resident George Chen, 61, died July 31, 2009, in Bonney Lake.

He was born April 7, 1948, in Mukden, China, and moved to the United States when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1966 then attended the University of Washington. He served in the U.S. Army. He started working for Albertson’s as a box boy when he was 15 and worked his way up to store director. At the time of his death he was employ-ed at the Bonney Lake store. He loved gardening, cooking, snowmobiling, fishing with his grandsons and following sports, especially the Mariners and the Seahawks.

Survivors include his wife Lisa Chen of Enumclaw; son Martin Chen of Spanaway, Wash.; daughters Tracie Mason and husband Chris of Sumner and Sheridan Gardner of Enumclaw; brother Kirk Kajita and wife Miye of Newcastle, Wash.; sister, Kathy Kajita and husband Pete of Bremerton, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

A service is planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Buckley Hall.

STEVE FERNANDES

Steve “Skee-pi-iton” Fernandes, 54, died July 26, 2009, in Auburn, Wash.

He was born Aug. 26, 1954, and was a member of the Makah and Clallam Indian tribes and the American Indian movement. He was married to Maria in 1989 and worked as a commercial fisherman. He loved beading and carving ivory and cedar. He and his wife enjoyed watching Mariners games and movies together.

He is survived by wife Maria Carranza Fernandes of Auburn; sons Eddie Carranza, Henry Carranza, Daniel Charles and Steve Charles; brothers Roger Fernandes, Frank Fernandes, Fred Charles and Blanchard Charles; and sisters Sherry and Sarah.

He was preceded by his parents Frank and Violet Fernandes and son Kim Carranza.

A service took place at 9 a.m. Friday, July 31, at the Muckleshoot Shaker Church with the Rev. Dennis Anderson Sr. officiating.

The service was directed by Weeks’ Enumclaw Funeral Home.
