Potential pairings for the fall elections further took shape in recent days with announcements by two veteran members of the Enumclaw City Council.

While Jim Hogan admitted he thought about stepping aside before deciding to seek another term, Jeff Beckwith announced he’ll be walking away.

The campaign season is about to hit full stride, as the traditional, five-day filing period begins June 6. However, those filing by mail can jump in early.

Beckwith has hinted recently that he could be stepping aside, using City Council time to encourage citizens to consider making a run. He has been part of city government for 15 years, serving on the Park Board for six years before joining the council nine years ago.

One other council position is up this year and incumbent Rich Elfers announced early he would be running again.

Three positions also will become available on the Enumclaw School Board. Nancy Merrill and Cory Cassell have said they will seek re-election while Tim Nickson announced he will not continue.

The school board suddenly has another seat to fill. It was learned last week that board member Tamarah Hancock lives outside the director district she was representing, so she immediately tendered her resignation.
