The second of two initiatives to the 2013 Legislature has cleared the signature check process. The Secretary of State’s Election Division finished the review of Initiative 522 late Thursday afternoon. The official certification was then signed by Secretary of State Kim Wyman.

Fire set a car ablaze in the Papa John’s parking lot in Bonney Lake shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday. The flames had engulfed the car and were shooting up into the air, according to an off-duty reporter who witnessed the incident.

Some of the first to see the influx are the firefighter-paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who transport ill patients to area hospitals. Over the past two weeks, Pierce County hospitals are also reporting an increase in the number of patients they are treating with the flu.

PROWLING APLENTY: Police were told Jan. 30 a man had items stolen from his truck two nights in a row. The total value of the missing items was estimated at $700. Also on the 30th, a Washington Avenue resident reported someone had rummaged through a vehicle; nothing was stolen and there was no damage. The same was true during a prowling incident on Martin Way. A report of a second prowling incident on Martin Way indicated items had been stolen. On Pioneer Avenue, no damage was done during a prowl, but a GPS unit was taken.
