Police deal with plenty of impaired drivers | Buckley police reports May 8-15

An officer was dispatched at 3:40 a.m. May 12 to locate a vehicle that had been traveling on the wrong side of the road. An officer located the vehicle which stopped in the middle of the road on Cothary Street. The officer attempted to contact the driver, who was already sleeping and drooling while behind the wheel. The driver refused to open his door and then took off, driving recklessly. He drove several miles before stopping. He was placed under arrest on several charges.

DRUNK DRIVERS

• A vehicle that had gone past two cares with its high-beam headlights on was stopped just after 1 a.m. May 15 on state Route 410. The driver had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and had difficulty walking. After removing all his credit cards and dropping them on the ground, he was arrested for driving under the influence.

• An officer stopped a speeding vehicle shortly before 1 a.m. May 11 on Mundy Loss Road. The driver performed some voluntary tests and was arrested for driving under the influence.

• At 2:42 a.m. May 11 an officer stopped a speeding vehicle on state Route 410. The driver performed some voluntary tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

TWO WARRANTS: At 3:46 a.m. May 10 police contacted a woman who was walking the wrong way on state Route 410. It was discovered she was wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants. She was arrested and taken to Bonney Lake, then transferred to Puyallup.

TEEN CHARGED: An officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle the afternoon of May 8, but the teen driver instead sped away, squealing tires as he rounded corners. The driver finally stopped on River Avenue and was placed under arrest for failing to stop and reckless driving.

ENUMCLAW ASSIST: An officer heard May 8 of two inmates escaping from the Enumclaw police station and responded to assist with the hunt. The pair were apprehended after being on the loose for a few hours.

ARREST WARRANT: Officers were directed the afternoon of May 8 to a residence on 112th Street East to contact a 39-year-old Buckley resident who was wanted on an outstanding felony arrest warrant. The man was located, taken into custody without incident and booked into the Enumclaw jail, as requested by the state Department of Corrections.

STOLEN AUTO: While arresting a man on an outstanding warrant (see previous item) police noticed a vehicle on the property that had been stripped, with parts scattered about the area. An identification number was located that matched a vehicle that had been stolen in Puyallup. The vehicle and its parts were impounded, to be processed by the Auto Theft Task Force.
