Prescription for Safety | Message from Sumner’s Mayor

The Shred & Clean is coming up later this month, and that sure has grown to be a much-anticipated event. One popular piece of it is the prescription drug take-back. You can drop off any unused medicine, and the police will dispose of it safely.

The following is a message from Sumner’s mayor Dave Enslow:

The Shred & Clean is coming up later this month, and that sure has grown to be a much-anticipated event.  One popular piece of it is the prescription drug take-back.  You can drop off any unused medicine, and the police will dispose of it safely.

The only thing I worry is that by emphasizing this option on one day, you may not realize that you can do this any day of the week!  There’s a green metal bin in the Police lobby, similar to a mailbox.  At any time during business hours, you can drop in unused medicine.  You don’t even have to ask or talk to anybody.

This is an important resource because it sure helps keep Sumner safe.  It avoids medicines being flushed down the toilet, which eventually sends them to our rivers and waterways.  Safe disposal in our bin also avoids medicines being tossed in the garbage and found by addicts or even kids when you put the garbage out.  Please take advantage of the Shred & Clean day, but as you have unused prescriptions, also know that you don’t have to wait for a special day to dispose of it safely.
