Sumner celebrates front yards

This event celebrates Sumner’s beautiful front porches, yards and gardens while encouraging visitors and locals to explore the town.

Sumner’s first Front Yard Fair is coming August 7-10. This event celebrates Sumner’s beautiful front porches, yards and gardens while encouraging visitors and locals to explore the town. Homes in Sumner can sign up to be considered in the Front Yard Fair.

On August 7, judges will tour the participating properties and assign awards such as “Rock On” for best front porch and “Green Thumbs Up” for best overall garden.

Then, August 8-10, maps of the participating and award-winning yards will be available online or printed at the Sumner Visitor Center, located at The Old Cannery Furniture Store. Visitors and neighbors can walk or bike the route to view the yards. All viewing and judging will take place from the sidewalk and only incorporate yards visible from the public street. Judges include representatives from local businesses and organizations including McLendon Hardware, The Old Cannery, South Sound Magazine and the Sumner Arts Commission.

Currently, 14 homes have signed up to participate. Sumner residents can sign up to participate through August 4 to be considered in the judging. There’s a short sign-up form available here.

All participants must be within the city limits of Sumner.
