Sumner is celebrating Earth Day and spring cleaning with a recycling event Saturday at the former Red Apple parking lot across from City Hall at 1104 Maple St.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the Daffodil Valley Kiwanis and city of Sumner.

With so many new and improved forms of technology arriving steadily, it’s easy to amass a stockpile of old devices, but the recycling event gives the chance to donate old cell phones to the YWCA. The phones will be given to victims of violence.

Sensitive documents will be disposed of by LeMay Mobile Shredding, but there is a limit of three grocery bags per person.

Sumner Police will provide safe disposal of leftover prescriptions.

Clothes, household items and electronics are being accepted by Goodwill and CFL bulbs, alkaline batteries, recyclable tool batteries and circuit breakers are being accepted by McLendon Hardware.

Furniture, appliances, white sinks, white toilets and more may go to the Tacoma Pierce County Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Coupons from DM Disposal are being mailed through Friday. They are redeemable to get rid of extra garbage, yard waste and an appliance.
