Suspect hides behind tree in attempt to elude police | BONNEY LAKE POLICE BLOTTER

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: Officers were dispatched April 1 to Safeway for a report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival police immediately recognized the suspect who admitted to attempting to steal two 40-oz bottles of beer. The suspect was placed under arrest and a search revealed a small bag of marijuana and a marble pipe. The suspect was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on charges of theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

THEFT: Officers were dispatched to Safeway April 1 for a report of two juvenile females in custody for shoplifting. Store security witnessed the two girls attempt to leave the store without paying for merchandise. The two girls were released to their fathers and the case was forwarded to the Pierce County juvenile court.

VEHICLE PROWL: Police on April 2 took a phone report from a resident in the 20200 block of 96th Street East regarding a theft from his vehicle over night. Among the missing items are a subwoofer, amplifier and radar detector. Police are investigating.

STOGIE SHOPLIFTING: Police were called to Cigar World on 214th Avenue East on April 4 for a report of the theft of $40 worth of tobacco from the shop. According to store employees two males entered the store, each picked up a bag of tobacco valued at $20 and then ran out of the store without paying for the items. Police were shown the store surveillance videos and have descriptions of each suspect, who appear to be between 16 and 19 years old. The case was forwarded to investigations.

THEFT: Police were called to the Auto Zone April 5 for a report of a shoplifter. Store employees saw a man leave the store with a set of fog lamps, a spool of wiring and several wiring connectors totaling $140 in value. Police have a description of the suspect as well as the vehicle used in the theft and the woman driving the vehicle at the time. Police are investigating.

IDENTITY THEFT: Police on April 1 were contacted in the Public Safety Building Lobby by a woman reporting that her identity may have been stolen. According to the woman, she visited a state office to apply for benefits and was asked a series of questions by the employee regarding a residence in which she said she has never lived and a last name she has never used. The employee then told her it appeared someone else was using her Social Security number. Bonney Lake police provided the woman with several handouts and brochures regarding identity theft and advised her to run a credit check and notify the Social Security Commission.

ROAD RAGE: Police on April 5 were dispatched regarding a road rage incident with property damage that occurred in the 18300 block of state Route 410. The incident involved a semi tractor trailer and a motor home in which the driver of the motor home exited his vehicle and threw a rock at the passenger window of the semi truck while both were stopped for heavy traffic. The driver of the truck stopped near the Valley Ave exit in Sumner and the motor home was pulled over by Sumner Police in the 1800 block of Mead-McCumber Road in Sumner. According to the truck driver, he began merging left as instructed by road signs when he noticed the motor home speeding up in an apparent attempt to get around him, though there was not enough space to do so. According to the truck driver, when the two vehicles came to a stop due to heavy traffic and construction, the driver of the motor home exited his vehicle, ran up to the truck, jumped on the running boards and began yelling, screaming and waving his fists. As traffic began to move again, the truck driver said the driver of the motor home jumped down, picked up a large rock. When traffic came to a stop again, the motor home driver allegedly threw the rock at the truck, breaking the passenger side window. Two witnesses later confirmed the truck driver’s report and identified the motor home driver as the aggressor. Sumner police contacted the driver of the motor home and advised him of his rights. When he was contacted by Bonney Lake officers he admitted to throwing the rock because he felt the truck had “cut him off.” He also told police that what he did was “stupid” and said “I should have called the police instead of doing what I did.” The driver of the motor home was placed under arrest ad transported to Buckley Jail on charges of reckless endangerment and malicious mischief.

MINOR IN POSSESSION: Police on patrol April 3 saw a white male standing in the driveway of a home in the 9900 block of 181st Avenue East, where the officer had been earlier in the night for a juvenile alcohol party. Police contacted the man who said he was waiting for a ride. Officers noticed a slight smell of intoxicants and the male admitted to having “four or five beers.” The male was identified by his Driver’s license as being under the age of 21 and was placed under arrest for minor in possession of alcohol. He was given a citation and released as a passenger after his ride arrived. According to the report, the male was “very polite and cooperative” during the entire incident.

MINOR WITH ALCOHOL AND POT: On April 6 an officer in an unmarked vehicle parked in the Highway Grocery parking lot witnessed a male subject with a youthful appearance exit a car carrying a container of a combined alcohol/energy drink. After the officer identified himself as police, the suspect “dropped his head in disbelief” and told the officer he was 19. The suspect’s eyes also appeared watery and bloodshot. He was placed under arrest for minor in possession and a search revealed a baggie of marijuana in his pocket. He was cited for minor in possession and possession of marijuana and was released.

POSSESSION: Officers on Patrol late April 1 saw a subject running away from the area of the ATM at Harborstone Credit Union. As the officer stepped his vehicle, the subject attempted to hide behind one of the small trees in the area. The officer pointed his spotlight at the area, identified himself and told the suspect to get on the ground. The suspect did not comply. The officer drew his weapon and again yelled for the suspect to get on the ground. The suspect again did not comply. The officer gave the order again, at which point the suspect came out from behind the tree and started walking rapidly toward the officer who again yelled for the suspect to get on he ground. The suspect finally complied. Her was detained in handcuffs and taken to the patrol car where he was patted down for possible weapons. Police discovered a marijuana pipe but the suspect said he had no other marijuana on him. Additional officers arrived and searched the area in which the suspect attempted to hide and discovered two small baggies containing marijuana. A further search of the suspect revealed an additional bag of marijuana in his wallet. The suspect was released to his father’s custody and the case was forwarded to Remann Hall for charging.

SPEEDING, DRUGS: Police on April 5 pulled over a vehicle on SR410 for speeding. Officers observed the driver and passenger moving around the interior of the vehicle as if putting things away. Upon contact the driver was unable to produce proof of insurance and told police his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for driving with license suspended and the vehicle would be turned over to the passenger after police searched it for weapons. The driver consented to the search. In the car, police located a wooden billy club lodged between the seats and a white glass pipe with a bulb at the end similar to those used for smoking methamphetamine. Officers also observed several small plastic baggies with a “batman” logo on them, as well as a can containing three baggies with a small amount of meth in them. Police also located a baggie of marijuana. The driver said the meth was not his and consented to a further search at which time police found a small glass pipe with marijuana residue and a box containing a digital scale. POlice also observed a flat screen TV sitting on the floor in front of the two front seats and a small camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle. The officer at that time decided he was not comfortable releasing the vehicle to the passenger and it was impounded. The driver was booked into Pierce County Jail and issued interactions for speeding and for failure to provide insurance. The following charges were also recommended: possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license suspended and failure to transfer vehicle title within 45 days.
