Wednesday, the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office requested a 72-hour hold on Andrake Dion Morris, 18. The suspect was arrested for rape, residential burglary, and robbery. The Pierce County Superior Court granted the hold for the ongoing investigation and bail was set at the requested $1 million. Morris was apprehended Monday as a suspect in an assault and rape that took place at the Tender Hearts Learning Center in Tacoma that morning, and was subsequently linked to two separate crimes that took place in fall 2012.

“Good police work has led to an arrest in the assault at Tender Heart Learning Center daycare on March 18,” said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. “This is an ongoing investigation involving multiple allegations. We will keep the community posted on progress.”

In addition to the assault and rape case, the hold stems from alleged crimes that took place on Aug. 17, 2012 and Oct. 27, 2012.

On Aug. 17, an apartment resident reported witnessing the suspect as he escaped out the window with a laptop. After the encounter, a roommate who had been asleep during the burglary discovered semen on her shoulder and the couch where she had been sleeping. Morris confessed to the crimes in police custody, and DNA testing confirmed the defendant was at the scene, according to the prosecutor’s Declaration for Determination of Probable Cause.

On Oct. 27, a woman using a Red Box movie vendor at the Pacific Avenue South Walgreen’s with her two young children reported she was robbed by what she believed to be gunpoint, according to the probable cause document. She picked Morris out in a photo montage after he was taken into custody.
