TRAFFIC ALERT (UPDATE): Traffic still slow through Sumner at site of rollover accident from earlier

Accident at 167/512 interchange.

UPDATE: The road is now open and traffic is slowly dissipating. The shoulder remains closed as crews work to repair the guardrail.

Crews are working to clear a semi truck that overturned on the ramp from southbound state Highway 167 to westbound state Highway 512 and traffic on the roads is backed up through Sumner.

The exit is completely closed as the wreck is being cleared. Traffic is being detoured onto Meridian in Puyallup.

Traffic on 410 is backed past the Traffic Avenue Exit in Sumner and past the 24th Street exit on 167.

The driver of the truck, 52-year-old Raymond Chute of Auburn, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for injuries.

A diesel spill of unknown quantity has been reported, but is not on the roadway and is not impacting travel.

According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, police believe speed to be a cause of the accident and the driver is being charged with negligent driving.
