Tree faller, employed with Bonney Lake company, killed by snag in Oregon fire

A Madras, Ore. man was killed by a falling tree Thursday morning while aiding in a battle against lightning fires in the Deschutes National Forest.

John Hammack, 60, was clearing trees in the Mt. Washington Wilderness Area as part of a falling crew removing fire hazards. A colleague, 45-year-old Norman Crawford, was injured and transported to St. Charles Medical Center, according to a wildfire information page set up by the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Both men worked for R&K Water Service, a company based out of Bonney Lake.
