Students at Bonney Lake High School were released at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday following a bomb threat made by a student who did not want to go to class.

According to a press release from the Bonney Lake Police, officers were dispatched to the school at approximately 8:35 a.m. after a student located a note containing a bomb threat.

According to police, the note read “School is going to blow up at noon.”

According to an email from the district to parents, a note suggesting bomb threat was found this morning on campus. The district immediately contacted Bonney Lake Police and placed the school in a modified lockdown.

The modified lockdown is similar to a lockdown, but allows more movement within the building. Students may continue to work at their desks with lights on. They may go to the restroom.

No one, however, may enter or leave the building—staff, students or parents.

Police, with the aid of a bomb-sniffing dog, searched the school’s gym. No suspicious objects were found.

The school made the decision to move all students to the gym.   Campus safety officers along with local law enforcement will be conducting a thorough search of the entire school with the bomb dog as a precaution.

According to the press release from police, the school was evacuated were sent home while bomb detection dogs swept the building. No explosives or explosive materials were found.

Further investigation identified a suspect who was a Bonney Lake High School student and he was later arrested. The student admitted to writing the bomb threat note to avoid going to class. The suspect was later booked into the Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Facility.

All after school activities, clubs and practices are canceled.

The BHS Basketball game will be held as scheduled.
