UPDATED: Firefighters find body in burning truck, police rule death as suicide

UPDATE: Bonney Lake Police have ruled the death of a man found in a burning truck May 25 as a suicide. The victim was the registered owner of the truck.

Firefighters battling a car fire in Bonney Lake discovered a body in the bed of the pick-up truck. Police are investigating the circumstances of the death. They have not ruled out homicide or suicide at this point.

According to a press release, multiple witnesses called 911 to report hearing several loud explosions before a truck in the 8400 block of 181st Avenue East became engulfed in flames around noon Wednesday.

Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, protecting a nearby home and several other vehicles in the area.

Once the fire was out, the firefighters discovered the body in the bed of the burned out truck.

According to Bonney Lake Police, the body was unidentifiable due to the fire. The body was released tot he Pierce County Medical Examiner for an autopsy, with results expected later this week.

According to neighbors, the truck belongs to a man renting a room in a house in the neighborhood.

The incident was originally reported as a homicide investigation, but police said they are investigating the incident as a death and have not ruled out anything yet.
