Weekend Briefing | News for June 20 – 24

The City of Black Diamond made progress on much of the stalled city business during last week's meeting, although there is still much more work to be done. Black Diamond council, mayor call cease-fire, but large issues still loom

The Black Diamond City Council passed several pieces of legislation last week, marking the June 16 meeting as one of the most successful meetings of the year. Among the items passed were approved projects, approved grants and approving two contracts for building services. What the council did not agree on, though, was a contract to finish the city’s Comprehensive Plan or agreeing to hire a new city attorney. Read more about the June 16 meeting here.

Enumclaw street improvement plan moves forward 

The Enumclaw City Council just agreed to borrow $2.75 million for street repairs for the next three years.  The loan will be paid back through the revenue generated by the city’s Transportation Benefit District. Additionally, there was discussion about the benefits and detriments to allowing gated communities to call Enumclaw home. Read more about the June 20 council meeting here.

Plenty of success for Rainier rugby players

Kids from Enumclaw, Buckley, Bonney Lake and Sumner in the Rainier Junior Rugby Club had a very successful season. The 7th and 8th grade boys grabbed a state title, as well as the JV and Varsity team while the high school girls team was the runner-up in state! Read more about the club’s achievements here.
