What to pack in an emergency kit, part 6

Week five of Bonney Lake City Clerk Harwood “Woody” Edvalson’s series on what to pack in an emergency kit discussed shelter. He recommended including two emergency blankets per family member, as well as nylon cord and duct tape to stake a shelter if necessary. Week six analyzes other gear that may be helpful in an emergency kit.

Edvalson suggests rain ponchos, though in a pinch garbage bags can also be used. A multi-funtional knife, duct tape, waterproof matches, flashlights, batteries, a whistle, first aid kit and candles are also useful during emergencies, said Edvalson. Packing a small amount of cash may be a good idea, with a focus on small bills and coins.
