WSDOT ready for first weekday commute without SR 99

The Washington State Department of Transportation and its partner agencies are set for Monday morning’s commute, the first of two full weekdays without State Route 99 near South Lake Union.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and its partner agencies are set for Monday morning’s commute, the first of two full weekdays without State Route 99 near South Lake Union.

The SR 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, but the highway will remain closed between the south end of the Battery Street Tunnel and Valley Street until Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 5 a.m.

After the viaduct reopens, northbound drivers will be able to exit SR 99 at both Seneca Street and Western Avenue; southbound drivers will be able to enter SR 99 at Elliott Avenue. The continuing closure of SR 99 at the north end of downtown will likely cause backups on city streets and I-5.
