James Qualls

A memorial service is pending for James L. Qualls, who died March 27, 2016, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

He was born Nov. 11, 1931, in Sequim, Wash., to Ralph and Edna (Stevens) Qualls. He graduated in 1949 from Enumclaw High School and, in 1951, he married Carole Portinga. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict, earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Upon returning home, he formed Qualls, Stevens and Blow Logging Co. After several years of logging, he went to work for Bechtel Construction, working out of the country for more than 20 years.

He is survived by wife Carole; sister Alice McCauley; brother Frank Qualls; children Teri Larson, Joelle Holland, Randy Qualls, Russell Qualls and Lori Glasscock; 32 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
