La Myra Sumner

La Myra M. (Lundell) Sumner died April 4, 2011. She was born Feb. 29, 1920, near Cannon Falls, Minn. She was the daughter of Andrew Lundell and Hilma (Benson) Lundell.

She married Philip Sumner April 10, 1938.

Her mother died when she was 14, leaving her to do all the duties of a farm woman, a huge task for a 14-year-old. The work ethic she learned stayed with her all of her life. She was never afraid of hard work and always wanted to stay busy.

During World War II, she and her husband Philip and daughter Marilyn lived in Los Angeles. The family returned to Cannon Falls in 1945. Their son Dennis was born in 1946. In 1952, the family moved to Van Nuys, Calif., living there until retiring to South Prairie in 1975.

During the time she lived in Van Nuys, she worked for the Valley News and Green Sheet.

She is survived by son Dennis of Valencia, Calif.; daughter Marilyn Sauve of South Prairie; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
