By Wally DuChateau

T’was two days before Christmas

And across the plateau,

Everyone is quite busy

Everyone on the go;

There’s the main street in Buckley

Pick your favorite club,

Have a drink in D’Jon’s

Or the Firehouse Pub;

Driving out on the highway

A bit further from town,

You’ll find friendly people

Are hanging around;

And inside the Four-Ten

Dressed in holiday gear,

If you lean towards the juke-box

Christmas songs you can hear;

There’s a party in White Horse

It’s so full of good cheer.

The owners, Jeff and Debbie

Even buy me a beer.

‘Or the bridge in Black Diamond

In the wild Swingin’ Arm

The crowd is quite boisterous

But no need for alarm;

‘Cuz everyone is friendly

Full of holiday glee;

And Jamie will greet you

Just as she greeted me.

‘Bout this time I start thinking

I should no longer roam,

So I drive back to Enumclaw

A bit closer to home;

‘Cuz when you’re half hammered

Home’s the best place to be,

So I wander about

And go into the Lee;

Where I look down the bar

And who should I see,

But Dave dressed like Santa

And now he sees me;

Then we both leave the lounge

Cross the street to the Ski,

Where the bartender, Nikki

Yells “Hello” to me;

And when she bends over

You know what I mean,

She’ll divert your attention

From the TV screen;

And Amber is there

She is always quite cool,

As she watches her husband

Shoot a new game of pool.

Then I walk through the alley

Into the Rainier,

Where owners, Jeff and Debbie

Buy me some more beer;

I guess they’ve forgotten

What they bought me before,

Then I greet everyone and

Go out the front door;

‘Cross the street in the Mint

Our new mayor is there,

I think she holds court

In the pizza drenched air;

I see city officials

As around her they sat,

They hope to change Enumclaw

Yeah, good luck with that.

To the Martini bar

I suppose I should go,

To say hello to Justine

And others I know;

But I guess it’s best now

To call it a night,

‘Cuz I’ve slurred a few words

Meaning I’m a bit tight.

But my head’s in a good place

I’m sure you’ll agree,

Full of holiday spirit

As it surely should be;

So I’ll toast all of you

With a seasonal cheer,

Have a most splendid Christmas

And a happy New Year!
