County decision is no friend to environment

Recycling is a pain. Tim Stephens (letter to the editor, Jan. 18) is right on.
My husband, son and I recycle everything possible and sorting this and that here and there is just not fun. Nor is it fun to load it all into our three-horse trailer and haul it to the transfer station and again sort it here, there and then the boxes.
So why do we do it? Why do we carpool and why do we compost? Because it’s the “right” thing to do for our environment and its future and, like exercise or any other not-so-fun task, when we are done it just plain feels good. Living out here and having animals, combined with working in Renton and Seattle, it just isn’t feasible, nor do we have the time to take our now-garbage elsewhere so, we, like your numerous other readers, will simply toss hundreds of pounds of cans, bottles, plastic and paper right into the landfill, all mixed together.
It will be much easier but it will hurt as it will be in direct contradiction with our personal values. But to take a loaded trailer to work with us, to stop off in Auburn on the way home, can’t happen; nor can taking precious weekend time to do so.
We chose to live here and we love it and aren’t about to move closer to the big city so we can recycle. Oh, and we do have roadside collection service but would literally fill a bin in two days or less.
