This letter is to remind all drivers that the end of the school year is almost here. Summer weather is hopefully coming soon, so please watch out for children playing on the sidewalks and yards. As the weather warms up and the days are getting longer, please watch our for the children of the community.

There are many homes on my particular block (Marshall Avenue) that have children playing during the daytime until dusk. While watching for children playing remember most of the time they are usually playing a sport of some kind, so watch for objects to enter the street especially kickballs and footballs.

Another thing that some drivers may not be aware of or have forgotten is to be extremely careful when backing out of driveways or alleys. Most driveways or alleys have a shrub-like hedge and when they grow they thicken and sometimes become a blind spot. Please watch for people walking down the sidewalks especially the children on their bikes. If children are walking they cannot always be seen in the rearview mirror.

Please take extra caution this season to avoid having a horrible tragedy in our community, just from being in a hurry or lack of common-sense driving rules.
