EHS VOLLYBALL: Hornets big and tall for 2010

Enumclaw High’s Jackie Carel is the dean of girl’s volleyball coaches in the South Puget Sound League 3A, having led the Hornets for a quarter of a century.

So, when she proclaims this season’s product is the tallest if not the most athletic team she has ever had, opposing coaches should take notice.

Enumclaw boasts twin towers in Katina Ferguson and Richelle Carel, both easily 6-feet tall and each of them has one more year of experience as they are both seniors.

There are many other weapons in the Hornets’ arsenal. HayleeMae Dennis is a 5-foot-10 junior outside hitter, as is Molly Colyer.

Sophomore hitters, both 5-10, are Danielle Salterelli and Missy Sanders. Senior Gina Sanders will be returning to the fold too. Joining her will be a matched set of senior defensive specialists in Alex Putman and Abbie Maxwell.

Helping fill out the varsity roster will be sophomore hitter Molly Lamotte, setter Katie Holland and libero Julia Myers.

After hosting Mount Rainier Thursday night, the Hornets will make the annual trip to Yakima for Saturday’s SunDome Volleyball Festival.
