The White River High volleyball squad’s record dropped to 1-2 in league play and 1-3 overall after losing to Fife and Washington in South Puget Sound League 2A competition.

White River went from a peak to a deep valley last week, losing Sept. 14 in straight sets to league-leading Fife by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-23, then falling Thursday to a tough Washington High team 25-23, 25-12, 25-19.

White River was blanked despite junior outside hitter Haley Valalla drilling 12 kills against Fife and junior setter Erinne Clements booming seven aces against Washington.

The Hornets began their season hosting and losing a lively nonleague encounter to Enumclaw High, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.

Then, on Sept. 9, WRHS swept its initial league opponent Clover Park 25-17, 25-6 and 25-14.

In its road shutout over the Warriors, the Hornets dominated with the help of Jailyn VanSickle and Jade Crawford, who combined for 14 kills, as well as Mikaela Kilcup and Courtney Hall, who managed six and four aces, respectively.

Coach Stryder Argo said his bunch is beginning to show signs of life and that the season is still young.

The Hornets tried to improve their 1-2 league mark Tuesday when they hosted a winless Steilacoom unit and travel to Eatonville Thursday.
