The White River Hornets picked up a major soccer victory Thursday, knocking off the visiting Sumner Spartans in a shootout.
Cassidy France scored for the Hornets and Meagan Bodus had a goal for Sumner, leaving the teams tied at the end of regulation play. After two overtime periods couldn’t settle the contest, the Hornets prevailed in a shootout.
The win left White River with a South Puget Sound League 2A record of 6-2; the loss was the first of the year for the Spartans.
The Hornets had far less difficulty in their first game last week, defeating Washington 9-0 Oct. 5 in Buckley.
France scored three times during the easy win and Kinsey Gandel added a pair of goals. Scoring one each were Morgan Brown, Ashley Powell, Amber Inderbitzen and Nicole Partlow.
