The White River Hornets put together a strong showing, outscoring Steilacoom and Clover Park by a combined score of 14-0 in South Puget Sound League 2A soccer play.

Thursday’s 5-0 victory over the fourth-place Steilacoom Sentinels improved the Hornets’ league mark to 8-2, just a game behind the pace-setting Sumner Spartans. It was the seventh win in a row for the White River crew.

The Hornets will look to finish strong as their final three games will be against teams in the lower half of the league. The only upper-division foe came Tuesday when White River traveled to Fife.

The scoring honors were spread around Thursday as five Hornets found the net. Cassidy France and Morgan Brown had goals in the first 10 minutes, Kinsey Gandel and Ashley Powell added goals early in the second half and Payton Bushaw had the final tally late in the contest.

Kylie Englebert earned the shutout in goal.

Oct. 12 saw nine Hornets scoring during the 9-0 victory over the Warriors.

Doing the honors were Maggie Williams, Powell, Jillian Keane, Gandel, Nicole Partlow, Bushaw, Alex Fiedler, France and Regan Speyer.

Englebert and Jamie Meagher shared time in goal.
