Four runners will represent the White River Hornets Saturday at the state cross country championships.
The quartet – Kody Gould and Marcus Dickson in the boys race, Lauren Wate and Kelly Coyle in the girls – qualified during Saturday’s District III championships at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood. The top 25 individuals in each Class 2A race earned a state berth.
White River’s top finisher was Wate, who placed third in the girls 2A field with a time of 18 minutes, 54 seconds. Coyle earned her state trip by finishing 24th with a time of 20:39.
Gould was the No. 5 runner across the line in the boys 2A race, finishing in 16:27. He was followed by Dickson, who placed sixth with a 16:34 clocking.
The state meet will be staged at its traditional site, Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. Runners will arrive Friday and have a chance to check out the course, then compete Saturday. The Class 2A girls race is slated for 11 a.m. and the 2A boys run at 1:30 p.m.
