EHS VOLLEYBALL: Hornets sit state home

The West Central District volleyball tournament for Enumclaw High’s squad was like a storm on the horizon. They knew what was coming, but about all they could do was batten down the hatches and hang on.

“We lost to a great Prairie squad on Friday and then got beat by an even better Timberline team on Saturday...and just like that our season was over,” coach Jackie Carel said.

The Hornet girls played with a lot of heart, according to Carel, especially against Timberline, when senior setter Gina Sanders hit the hardwood and sustained a concussion.

“They played as hard as they possibly could,” Carel said, singling out junior HayleeMae Dennis and seniors Katina Ferguson, Richelle Carel, Alex Putman, Abbie Maxwell and Sanders.

Carel said she will miss this group of athletes.

“What this group of girls achieved this year was pretty amazing,” she said. “We hung in there against a superior Auburn Mountainview team and tied a super Bonney Lake team for second in the South Puget Sound League 3A with 7-3 records.”
