EHS GIRLS BASKETBALL: Hornets wrap up tandem victories

The Enumclaw High girls earned two presents in the days leading up to Christmas, wrapping up victories over Franklin Pierce and Kentridge.

The twin wins came as no surprise to coach Beth Madill, who had high praise for her club even as it was dropping four games in a row. Her Hornets had shown they could handle every aspect of the game, but hadn’t managed to put everything together for a full 32 minutes, she said. Adding to the mix was a tough early-season schedule.

The Hornets began their winter break Dec. 20 with a 46-37, home court victory over Franklin Pierce.

Tied at 29 after three periods of play, Enumclaw used a fourth-quarter blitz to send the visiting Cardinals packing. Katina Ferguson and Calli Remitz scored 10 points each to lead the Hornet offense.

The following night, EHS outscored Kentridge in every quarter to ring up a 43-33 win, again at home. Each club got off to a slow start, as the Hornets led just 4-2 after one period of play and 14-11 at halftime.

Ferguson was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points.
