WRHS BOYS BASKETBALL: Tyler’s clutch free throws solidify Hornet victory
January 24, 2011 · 3:36 PM
Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
In a Jan. 18 White River’s boys basketball team game with Sumner, Hornet coach Rick Tripp admitted, “We did get a little lucky.”
The fourth quarter clock was winding down when WRHS’s Jason Tyler made a couple of clutch free throws, tying the contest with the first one and putting WRHS up 51-50 with the second. Sumner, which had a chance to steal the triumph, consequently suffered its second one-point league setback of the 2010-11 campaign.
If his Hornets come away with wins at Steilacoom Tuesday and Washington Friday, they will stand alone in second place with a 7-3 record.
The Hornets had to deal with league-leading Clover Park Friday, and got throttled 82-48. Clover Parks’ Tana Pritchard lit up the scoreboard with 26 points.
Pritchard is the SPSL 2A scoring leader. White River’s Billy Kiel is third, averaging 12 points per outing.
