STATE SWIM AND DIVE: VanHoof takes top Hornets’ finish
February 22, 2011 · Updated 9:22 AM
Saturday, when the waves calmed at the King County Aquatic Center, the Enumclaw High swim and dive team was sitting with a top 20 finish and several individual top 20 finishers to boot.
Sophomore Bennon VanHoof led the Hornets with an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. His preliminary time Friday of 1 minute, 1.55 seconds was close to his record-setting time earlier in the season of a 1:01.38.
VanHoof raced the breaststroke leg of the Hornets’ 13th place 200 medley relay with sophomores Thomas Petersen and Will Cooper and senior Travis Culp.
Hornet first-year divers David Kingman and Jesse Skipworth finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Both are sophomores.
Cooper was the Hornets’ next highest finisher, placing 18th in the 500 freestyle. Petersen was 20th in the 100 backstroke and VanHoof was 21st in the 200 individual medley.
