EHS WATER POLO: Enumclaw eats up competition with three victories
The Enumclaw High girls water polo team picked up three more wins to move to 4-2 on the season, 3-1 in league.
The Hornets started with a convincing 13-4 win over league rival Auburn Riverside March 22. Scoring for Enumclaw in the win were Annie Birklid, with four goals; Ali Ballard with three; Hannah Kinniburgh, two; and Kelsey Sonneson, Erin Stucker, Alexis Firlotte and sophomore Katie Larrea with one goal each. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Lesmeister registered nine saves in the win.
Thursday, Enumclaw hosted Peninsula at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center and came away with a 20-4 victory. In the win EHS tallied goals from all of its available field players, led by Ballard and Kinniburgh, with thee goals each. Also scoring for the Hornets were Bella Davenport, Allie Larrea, Katie Larrea, Birklid and Firlotte with two goals apiece, and Sonneson, Stucker, Alina VanRuff and Logann Erskine with one each.
Friday the Hornets traveled to Puyallup, to face last year’s sixth-place state finisher, Rogers. Enumclaw beat the Rams 15-4, holding the Rogers squad scoreless until the fourth quarter. Enumclaw managed 23 steals in the game, led by Stucker’s 11. Keeper Lesmeister gathered eight saves in the win.
On offense, eight Hornets scored, led by Stucker, with four goals, Katie Larrea with three, Ballard and Sonneson with two each, and Kinniburgh, Allie Larrea, Birklid and Firlotte with one goal apiece. Firlotte also led the team in assist, with three.
