WRHS GIRLS TENNIS: Hornets shine with win streak

While the sun was shining, so was the White River High girls tennis team. The Hornets have jumped to one of their best seasons in recent history and picked up a four more wins to boost their standing to 8-2 in league and overall.

The Hornets picked up wins against Fife April 18, Sumner April 19, Steilacoom April 20 and Clover Park Friday. The team's only loss came Thursday, a 3-2 squeaker with Washington.

Everyone was a winner in the Hornets' 5-0 victory over Clover Park.

Courtney Hall and Kelli Hoffman scored singles victories, while the No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Wombacher and Heidi Lyons and No. 2 duo of Riley Burleigh and Annie Shindle went to 10-point, third-set tiebreakers for their victories.

Ashley Gibson and Christina Ramous picked up the No. 3 doubles win.

Against Washington, Hall won in straight sets, while Hoffman won the first and third sets.

The Hornets earned matching 4-1 victories against Fife and Steilacoom.

Against the Sentinals, Hall and Hoffman won in straight sets. Burleigh and Shindle won 6-3, 6-3, and Audrey Fravel and Mackenzie Reed won 6-3, 6-2.

With the Trojans, the victories came in singles and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In WRHS's 3-2 win over Sumner it was Hall and Hoffman again leading the way with the Hornets' No. 3 doubles team of Fravel and Reed earning a 7-4, 6-4 win.
