WRHS FASTPITCH: Hornets sitting in second

The White River fastpitch club took three of four games last week, beating Clover Park twice and Washington once. But when Franklin Pierce traveled to Buckley Thursday, victory eluded the Hornet girls.

White River couldn't duplicate an early-season win as the visiting Cardinals scored the difference makers with one run in the sixth and one run in the seventh inning to edge WRHS 4-2 and drop the Hornets to second place behind the league-leading 8-1 Cards in the South Puget Sound League 2A standings.

"We had our chances, but we ended up stranding 10 base runners as we just couldn't get the timely hitting we needed," White River coach Joe Sprouse said.

In the three encounters prior to the crucial Franklin Pierce contest last week, White River annihilated Clover Park 20-0 April 18, pounded the Washington Patriots 17-0 April 19 and then on April 20 hosted Clover Park and once more pummeled the woeful Warriors 22-2.
