Lubking fans a dozen as White River picks victory over Fife

White River High's baseball squad wrapped up the South Puget Sound League 2A league pennant last week, winning three games and escalating its league mark to 12-1.
Just a single game remains on its league docket. White River hosted Sumner Monday and will keep the lumber limber when it boards a bus to Yelm today, Wednesday.
White River's crown-clinching week began April 26 when the high-flying Hornets blanked Fife 5-0 on Trojan turf behind the reliable pitching of senior southpaw Trevor Lubking, who threw a complete game shutout. Lubking fanned a dozen and improved his record to 7-1.
Kohl Kaelin and Tanner Williams had two hits each for the Hornets. Williams, who has been hitting up a storm lately, was exceptional against FHS pitching, pulverizing a two run dinger.
The Hornets then beat a visiting Eatonville bunch 5-4 April 27 in a rain-shortened affair, then tacked Fife again on Saturday and won 8-1.
"We just kind of reloaded with the ammunition we had and hoped we would be able to compete in this reconfigured league," Hornet coach Mike Williams said. "All these wins and claiming the league title just kind of snuck up on us."
