EHS FOOTBALL: Hornets mark new era with victory

The Enumclaw football squad christened refurbished Pete’s Pool stadium with a 28-14 victory over nonleague foe Yelm Friday evening before a throng of Hornet faithful.

It took the Hornet offense a while to get on track, but eventually quarterback Tyler Carlson got the grand opening started, as he ran for touchdowns of 10, 20 and 30 yards.

The Hornets rolled up 300 yards rushing on their artificial surface.

After building a 14-7 advantage at intermission, Enumclaw got caught napping when Yelm running back Jacob Swilley took the second half kickoff and galloped 66 yards to pay dirt. After the Tornadoes’ kicker spilt the uprights with the extra-point, the score was knotted at 14.

That seemed to get the swarm stirred, as the Tornadoes were held scoreless for the remainder of the encounter.

Carlson’s backfield sidekick, running back Cameron Strecker, rambled into the end zone from  three yards out midway through the closing quarter.

Enumclaw will roll out the red carpet for Union Friday. The Titans, a 4A contingent, lost their opener 27-10 to Bothell.
