EHS GOLF: EHS wants another swing at state title

The only thing better than last year’s finish would be a state title for the Enumclaw boys golf team.

The Hornets finished second at the 3A state tournament in May and return four seniors including Washington Junior Golf Association champion Tyler Salsbury, David Smith, Chase Dolliver and Colton McCluskey.

“We’d like to repeat as league and district champions first. We’re taking it one step at a time, but expectations are high,” coach Bob Kilmer said.

EHS jumped to the right start with a win over Sumner Aug. 31 and victory over Tahoma Thursday.

During Thursday’s match, Dolliver tied an EHS school record at Druid’s Glen. His 35-stroke performance even with Isaac Woods (1999-00) and Jeff Hawk (2000-01).

Of the 18 Hornets turning out, two are returning juniors, Beau Brock and JR Condon, and sophomores Kolton Tinney and Ian Runland.

The Hornet girls program has earned five state trophies in as many years including a state championship and last year’s fourth-place finish.

With no seniors on the roster, the Hornets will be led by junior state participants Tiffany Wilkening and Madeline Petellin. JV sophomores Kadyn Eldridge and Maddie Pillo are expected to make an impact.

The Lady Hornets also started with a win over Tahoma.

“We’re excited about the youth and enthusiasm of our girls team and the experience on our boys team,” Kilmer said.
