The White River High volleyball squad overcame stormy seas of self doubt, misfortune and malfunction to build a 5-0 record in SPSL 2A play and remain on top of the stack.

The White River crew began by annihilating Franklin Pierce 25-15, 15-14, 25-23 Sept. 26.

The Hornets displayed a balanced offensive attack as Dannie Stroud registered a dozen kills and Alisha Bidwell and Haley Vallala had seven each.

White River then trekked to SPSL 2A rival Sumner Sept. 28 and played what coach Stryder Argo called the team’s worst match of the season.

“Sumner wanted it a lot more than we did and actually managed to take a set from us,” Argo said. “We hadn’t lost a set for nearly a month. That was when it sunk in for me that we were really having a bad night. Sumner saw that we were struggling and they played us really tough.”

As out of synch as White River appeared to be, the Hornets still came away with a 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15 victory.

Undefeated White River has already mixed it up with the woeful Warriors at Clover Park Tuesday. White River rolls out the red carpet to welcome Fife at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
