WRHS GOLF: White River boys' run at league title
Monday, White River’s boys golf team found itself going head-to-head with Sumner for a share of the SPSL 2A title at Tapps Island Golf Course.
Results of that contest were not available at press time, but can be found at www.courierherald.com.
Going into the showdown, the Hornets, 7-2, were in second place behind the 8-1 Spartans.
The Hornets were scheduled to travel to Tacoma to play Clover Park Tuesday and close out the regular season at home with Steilacoom Thursday.
Tanner Williams and Ryne Peterson shared medalist honors for White River with an 8-over par 44 at North Shore during the Hornets’ 50-34 league win over Fife Sept. 28.
Coach Jer Argo said not only were the Hornets battling the Trojans, but gusting winds.
“It was a brutal day with branches falling from trees, balls parachuting from the sky, 30 to 40 mph gusts,” he said.
Argo said Tanner Sherstobitoff played the five-hole stretch between Holes 2 and 6 at 1-under par, but was blown away on the rest of the course.
Sherstobitoff carried home medalist honors Sept. 27 in the Hornets’ 63-28 win over Washington and 63-52 payback victory over Franklin Pierce. The Hornets lost to the Cardinals 59-54 earlier in the season.
Sherstobitoff shot a 2-over 37 at Tapps Island. Anderson turned in a solid performance, shooting 39 and scoring 14 points.
On the girls side, Caitlyn Miller picked up medalist honors Sept. 27 during the match with Franklin Pierce and Washington at Brookdale Golf Course in Tacoma.
The Hornets narrowly defeated Washington 36-34, but lost to Franklin Pierce 65-36.
In the win, Miller finished with 49 strokes for 16 points.
Against the Cardinals, Domminique Knapp earned medalist honors with a 47-stroke performance and 18 points.
Thursday the girls topped Fife 42-31 at Tapps Island. Fife’s Kendall Gray earned medalist honors with a 3-over par 38 performance. White River was again led by Miller.
