The White River High girls scored early and often the evening of Jan. 10, eventually rolling to a lopsided, 74-34 victory over the visiting Sumner Spartans.
The Hornets gave up the first bucket of the night, but then went on a 31-3 tear that effectively decided the outcome of the South Puget Sound League 2A tilt. After building a halftime advantage of 33-11, White River poured it on during the third quarter, eventually building a 33-point cushion be the end of the third quarter.
Aside from improving to 7-0 in SPSL 2A play and 11-1 overall, the dominating performance gave coach Chris Gibson the opportunity to provide playing time to his reserves. Gaining valuable court time were a handful of freshmen on the varsity roster.
Ten Hornets cracked the scoring column, led by Kennedy Hobert’s 28 points. Also with a double-digit night was Cassidy France, who finished with 10.
White River’s next contest is a nonleague battle with the Class 3A Bonney Lake Panthers. The two will square off at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the Bonney Lake gymnasium. Friday, the Hornets travel to Clover Park.
