Verazano wins Tampa Bay Derby to remain undefeated on road to the Kentucky Derby | Horse Racing

Verrazano, 3-year-old colt ridden by John Velazquez won the 1 1/16 mile Tampa Bay Derby, grade II, at Tampa Bay Downs in Florida.

The colt won in 1 minute, 43.96 seconds, just shy of the track record.

Undefeated, Verrazano racked up his first graded stakes victory on the road to the first leg of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby, May 4.

Verrazano won the race easily going to the front early.
