Jadey Baby wins Saturday feature | Emerald Downs
Jadey Baby swept past the leaders into the lane and edged clear for a 1 ¼ -length victory in Saturday’s featured event for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.
Ridden by Juan Gutierrez*capping a four-win day for the track’s leading rider*Jadey Baby ran 5 ½ furlongs in 1:04.40 and paid $6.60, $2.80 and $2.10. Robbie Baze is trainer and co-owner with William Nooney.
A 4-year-old Washington-bred by Cee’s Tizzy, Jadey Baby has a 2-6-2 mark in 18 career starts with earnings of $24,452. She had a hard-luck campaign in 2012, compiling one win and five seconds in 13 starts at Emerald Downs, Hastings Racecourse and Turf Paradise.
Saturday, Jadey Baby stalked the leaders as Eltoninadress and She’s a Time Bomb dueled through fractions of :21.98 for the quarter-mile and :45.38 for the half. Jadey Baby advanced three deep on the quarter-pole, took a short lead into the stretch and edged clear to the wire.
Eltoninadress and She’s a Time Bomb were in a virtual match race from the opening bell. Eltoninadress eventually won the battle, edging She’s a Time Bomb by a head for second place, but she lost the war as Jadey Baby scooted by both for the victory.
Ridden by Javier Matias, Eltoninadress paid $5.40 and $2.60, while She’s a Time Bomb, ridden by David G. Lopez, paid $2.60 for show. Lil Sister Sadie and Forest Bunny completed the order of finish; Bullys Blond Girl was a late scratch.
As for Gutierrez, the 43-year-old jockey became the first rider to win four races on a card this season at Emerald Downs. He also tied the record for most days with at least one win to start the season, 11, previously set by Jose Alferez in 1999.
